permissions

Getting permissions and access for DiSo right is essential. For a distributed social networking application to work, people should be able to run their own network and feel confidant that they have control over what data is exposed publicly and who has access to it. Additionally, being able to review who has seen what and when, and being able to view profile data from different permission levels is useful. Furthermore, the ability to offer different facets of a profile to different audiences is equally useful, especially owing to different social contexts (work vs personal vs anonymous).

Block lists

An important aspect of maintaining an online personal profile is the ability to feel safe, and one of the tools offered by social networks to that end is the ability to block certain users who have engaged in harassing, abusive or otherwise annoying or inappropriate behavior.

Work is already underway to make such lists portable, and should be able to follow a signed in user from site to site (i.e. a "web-wide block").
